WELCOME TO H.A|A PLACE FOR ARCHITECTURE|AND|DESIGN

Viktor & Rolf Flagship Boutique, PARIS

In the previous post  Black & White, I talked about the importance of these two "states of colors" according to me. I also said that there are many famous architects who have worked with white only. Now it's time to see some projects with black. The first I'm going to talk about is Viktor & Rolf"s flagship store in Paris. But first, let us go back in time, to 2001 when Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren designed a whole collection in black, and the models had they faces painted in the same color. He named it : The black hole.

Years later, he calls Architecture & Associés to turn a 4,700 SQF space into their new boutique in Paris. “We’d like a store that’s invisible,” Horsting said. The idea which then popped up into Architecture & Associés' architects Pierre Beucler and Jean-Christophe Poggioli was a concept they named "ghost architecture" where ghost reffers to "absence". In order to achieve the concept desired, the architects used a fabric as wall coverings. It's a material used by so many designers for acoustic panels.

The interior is also inspired by neoclassical era, thus the use of arches and oculus which makes the boutique look even more elegant. As you can see, black-or like in this case, a shade lighter- enhances all other colors that represent a minority and makes all of Viktor & Rolf's products seems more expensive than they already are.
